THE DARK KNIGHT-2008-3 1/2 STARS

This movie was excellent for several reasons, and one of them was because most of it was filmed in the city I was born and raised in, sweet home Chicago! Where else would you make a blockbuster action packed movie? Only thing is, where in the hell was I when the city was being blown to bits by the Joker?

Let’s talk about him for a hot second, do you think that the Joker was able to live up to all that hype? The answer is, HELL YES! While I really didn’t care to see his face on every Poster, T-Shirt, and every piece of underwear, I will give him kudos for a fine performance.

I would describe the Joker as eccentric, and cocky, definitely cocky. While he was able to crack a good joke from time to time, he wasn’t the kind of guy that had you rolling around in the isles laughing. Besides, you can get thrown out of the theater for that.

Now we all know what a bad ass Batman is, so I won’t talk about him, so I’ll move on to his alter ego, Bruce Wayne. I’m telling you, the director hit the jackpot when he picked Christian Bale to play the part. I mean, the guy is so charismatic, it’s not even funny.

Hell, he’s better than that Michael Keaton guy who played Batman in the 80’s, and I actually can’t believe that I can still remember that dude. Anyway, I’m gonna leave you with two spoilers, but don’t worry, they’re not the really important ones, so feel free to keep reading.

First spoiler, the Joker takes over Chicago, oops I mean Gotham City. Now don’t get me wrong, the Joker is a smooth dude and can be quite intimidating, but I wouldn’t just up and leave my house because of some crazy guy, give me a damn break. But the way he was able to seize control of a huge city was so ingenious, you’ll just have see the movie to find out how he does it.

Second spoiler, Lucius quits his job after Batman does something unethical. Now I’m on Batman’s side here, he did what he had to do in order to catch the Joker. I know you’re probably saying, “Ria, who gives a damn about Lucius anyway?” Well I care!

You know Morgan Freeman plays the character, who is extremely cool. Who else is Wayne gonna rely on to design all his awesome suits and Bat Cadillacs? I like Lucius, and I don’t appreciate Hollywood for trying to write him out of the script like that.

Yes, you have to see this movie, but you might want to wait a couple of weeks until the hype dies down a bit. Why? Because I had to wait in a line for 20 minutes after I bought my ticket, just so I could get a good seat in the movie theater!

Lucius said “As long as this machine is at Wayne Enterprises, I won’t be.” So, since the machine was destroyed, I think Lucius still remains at Wayne Enterprises. *shrug*

Are you sure the machine was destroyed? I remembered Lucius shutting it down, but I don’t remember him destroying it. But wait, maybe you’re right, maybe it was destroyed, ’cause Wayne told Lucius to put his name in the computer afterwards. When this was done, maybe it sent a virus throughout the system, destroying it in a subtle way.

Lucius is still around. His name was basically the kill switch, if you watch the screens as he walks off the they are going haywire and I think you even catch a few sparks.

He even smiles as he walks off.

I don’t think that whole thing was even an attempt to get rid of Lucius.

It could have been a subtle shot at George Bush, considering all the phone tap business.

And again I think it served as a reminder that Batman has a line, he did what he needed to do in order to catch the Joker but in the end he destroyed the machine. He did what was right and had planned to all along.

Because even he agrees with Lucius that having the machine is dangerous and if its kept around it WILL be misused.

We thankfully pre-ordered tickets so we didn’t have to wait.

And I like the fact in your review btw that you gave credit to Bale. Because I wholeheartedly agree he’s a fantastic Bruce Wayne.

Too many reviews are just fawning all over Ledger, who I agree was fantastic out of the Joker. He was everything he should have been, everything he is in the comics. But he wasn’t the only good actor in that movie.

As small as his part was, the scenes with Bale and Caine, were nice moments.

Aaron Eckhart was awesome as Harvey Dent.

Gary Oldman, is a briliant actor and got to show it there at the end.

It was a well acted movie all around. Ledger shone in his scenes as did everyone else.

The scenes, with Bale and Ledger, were intense. I almost want to see it again, I’m not sure I took it all in.

Plus the Batpod kicked ass!

Wow, what a great comment, I couldn’t agree more with everything you said. I guess you’re right, Lucius’s name was the killswitch. Good, ’cause I want him to come back for the next Batman movie. I didn’t take the whole movie in either, and I tried to stay in the theater to see it again. Unfortunately, because of time restraints, I had to leave in the first hour of the second movie, but I’m gonna try to see it again soon. Maybe I’ll do an Omnimax second time around.

Thanks ^-^

You’ll have to let me know how much the Omnimax enhances your enjoyment of the movie if any!

We were thinking of maybe going to our local Imax, but we’ll be busy the next couple of weeks.

Now I haven’t seen it on Omnimax yet, but that’s my next stop!
