MUSHISHI-THE SLEEPING MOUNTAIN-EPISODE 11-2 1/2 STARS

One of the good things about Mushishi is that there’s always mushi drama lurking about, and people are always droppin’ like flies. Unfortunately, this episode contains a boring death, but I can guarantee you that the next 3 episodes on the DVD are better.

In the first scene, everyone is watching a hole in a mountain nearby. Now Ginko is supposed to be looking too, but he’s way too busy stuffing his face with noodles, and almost misses it.

He does get a brief glance, but in an instant, the mountain is back to normal. Gee, wonder what that’s all about. A little later, Ginko stumbles on some of the male villagers gathered together, and as usual, he becomes extremely nosy, and wants to know what’s going on.

The villagers tell him that there is another mushi master that’s missing inside the mountains. Now this guy is extremely important, ’cause he can communicate with some kind of a mountain god that protects everybody.

Since Ginko is such a nice guy, he sets out to find this guy, and runs into some boy named Kodama, and apprentice of the missing mushi master. Now the kid is kind of out of it, and Ginko gives him this nasty stuff to clear his head. You can see the reaction, right? Ginko (probably to impress the kid), uses mugura mushi to find Mujika, who’s at the bottom of a ditch, supposedly hurt.

During a lengthy conversation, Mujika tells Ginko that after his leg heals, he will come back to the villagers to relay his message, but we find out later on that this is a lie. Years ago, Mujika killed the mountain god, and he now he’s ready to give his own life in return.

Well how noble, but incredibly stupid, why would he give up his life for some stupid mountain god? Then, I find out that god he killed previously was a beautiful boar, so now I’m completely pissed off. “Mujika, how could you do it? I can’t wait for the Kuchinawa to come take you out!”

Oh, you don’t know what that is, do you? The Kuchinawa is a mushi god that devours other gods, but I’ve found out that in future episodes, that it does a lot more than that, so make sure you keep reading, until you can grab a Mushishi DVD for yourself.

Ginko doesn’t want Mujika to give himself up to the kuchinawa, so he once again uses the mugura, I guess to find out the exact location of the Kuchinawa so he’ll know how much time they have to get the hell out of there.

Unfortunately it’s too late, Mujika is gone to that great kuchinawa in the sky, and the mushi god that takes the form of a snake retains his throne on top of the mountain. Hell yeah!
