MUSHISHI-EPISODE 10-THE WHITE WHICH LIVES WITHIN THE INK STONE-3 STARS

mushishi-episode-10-pic-5.jpg

This episode starts out with some kids sneaking into Dr. Adashino’s storage shed to snoop around. They find an ink stone, rub a stick on it, and before you know it, they’re freezing to death. Dr. Adashino sends for Ginko, which is kind of interesting, since Ginko is supposed to be on the other side of the world, healing people afflicted with mushi.

Okay, so Ginko shows up, and Dr. Adashino tells him that he thinks the ink stone might be made from a mushi fossil. Ginko decides to scold him, reminding him not to buy an item that he knows very little about. Ginko examines this ink stone, and sees that the mushi are still alive inside.

Ginko puts two and two together, and realizes that when the kids rubbed the ink stone, the mushi reproduced inside their bodies, and is now freezing them from the inside. So he’s on his way to track down the one who created the stone-”Wait Ginko, why should you travel all over west hell ’cause the doctor did something so stupid? Adashino should go and try to find the owner, at the very least he should go with you!”

Being the good friend that he is, Ginko finds Tagane, the one who made the ink stone. Through her we find out that she created it from a unique stone that she found laying around somewhere. As a result, her father, and fiance died after rubbing the stone.

Tagane revealed a little more about her quest to create the greatest ink stone, but I don’t feel like going into it, so just watch the episode. After the lengthy conversation, Ginko determines that the cloud eater mushi is to blame. It eats the moisture in the atmosphere, and turns it into snow, and hail.

The mushi then fall to the earth, turn into stone, and hibernate-until someone stupid stumbles onto it and uses it as a ink stone. Now the reason Tagane survived when everyone else keeled over around her, was because she traveled through the mountains, allowing the mushi to escape from her body into the air.

Ginko uses this information to save the kids. He and Tagane go back to Adashino, and they take the kids to the highest mountain, and watch the mushi escape from the children’s ears and mouth back into the atmosphere. “Bye you mushi troublemakers!” Now the children are back to normal, thanks to Ginko.

Afterwards, Tagane, and Adashino are arguing, Tagane wants to destroy the stone, but Adashino wants to save it, saying that it’s not the mushi’s fault, they were just trying to survive. “What are you talkin’ about Adashino? Those mushi just killed a lot of people, and they almost killed a couple of kids, THEY SHOULD DIE, DIE!”

Ginko says that instead of destroying the ink stone, the mushi should just be released back into the atmosphere, and that’s exactly what Tagane does. And then (sniff, sniff), hails fall to the ground, then (sniff, sniff), Tagane decides to go back to making ink stones again to pay for the damage to the villager’s homes. “What a wonderful ending (sniff, sniff), does anybody out there have any tissue?
