Now Haruhi is all excited, and she’s determined to find out why Asakura just up and left school without leaving a forwarding address. So she drags poor Kyon with her as she goes snooping around Asakura’s former home, and probes the building manager for answers. The guy really doesn’t know much, he never met Asakura’s parents, and the condo was paid for in cash.
So now Haruhi and Kyon leave the building, Uh oh, Haruhi is about to go into this long story about how insignificant she feels living in a world with so many people. Sigh, here we go, Haruhi takes us on a wonderful flashback to when she was in the sixth grade.
Awwwww, she looks so cute sitting there on that swing, “HEY, CAN SOMEBODY COME OVER AND KNOCK HER ASS RIGHT OFF OF IT, PLEASE?” Any takers? Whatever, let me finish her story, now this is important, because this is the reason why she is so melancholic. She goes to a baseball game with her family, and she’s amazed because there are so many people there, around 50 thousand.
So she goes home and divides 50,000 into the number of people in Japan, and comes up 2000, in other words, she’s devastated that she was only 1/2000th of a person at that baseball stadium. All this time Haruhi thought she was special, now she knows the truth, that she’s just a nobody with a serious attitude problem.
“Haruhi, you want an exciting life? Why don’t you try climbing a mountain, skydiving, or hold a lighted firecracker in your hand for as long as you can before throwing it? Yes, I know these things are extremely dangerous and you could end up losing your life, but that’s the whole point, stupid!” You know I really shouldn’t make fun, because the Shinjin might come and destroy the world.
What is Shinjin you ask? Itski comes along next, and takes Kyon on a trip to the area of closed space which is a gap between dimensions separate from the rest of the world. Now remember, Haruhi supposedly has the power to build a world, destroy it, and rebuild it again. When she gets pissed off, she creates a closed space, then giants (Shinjin) appear, and destroy stuff located in this space.
Now its Itski’s job as an esper (???) to destroy those monsters, because if they keep destroying stuff, the closed space gets wider and wider, until it blankets the whole world, and people will cease to exist. The Shinjin is linked to Suzumiya’s mental state, so the main goal is to keep Haruhi happy so that the world won’t end. BOOOOOO! Who would want to exist in a world where the main objective is to satisfy a stuck up brat’s needs so that she will not ruin the Earth?
Okay, I’m totally pissed off now, but we may have something to worry about, because Haruhi is starting to get bored, so we’ll see what happens in the next episode.
