TRANSFORMERS-2007-3 STARS

transformers.jpgShia LaBeouf lucks out, I mean stars (twice in one year, how painful), as Sam Witwicky in this 2007 film adaptation of the TV show Transformers. The good thing is, I can watch all of the good action that’s going on with the robots, and pretend Shia’s not around. However, I’ve accepted the fact that the movie does revolve around him (sigh), as he gets caught in the middle of the fight between the Decepticons, and Autobots for a powerful amulet called the AllSpark.

Now the Autobots removed the AllSpark from their planet of Cybertron, and brought it to Earth, so that the evil Megatron wouldn’t get his nasty hands on it. However, on his quest for it, he fell into the Arctic Ocean, where Sam’s late relative Archibald Witwicky finds him, but it’s too late, Megatron is fading away into the sunset.

But before he goes, he manages to muster enough strength to create a map into Witwicky’s eyeglasses showing the location of the Allspark. Now this is interesting. There were no TV’s or cars back in the middle 1800’s, yet there are highly advanced robots running around that know how to program codes into eyeglasses. Well, whatever, anyway, fast forward to the present, we have Sam who buys a car, which happens to be Bumblebee, an Autobot that has to protect Sam, since he is now in possession of those glasses.

Once again Shia LaBeouf gets to be envied by all the guys (I guess), and gets to ride around with an attractive co-star (Megan Fox), so for about fifteen minutes of the film, we get to see him lecherously pursuing her, trying to get the phone number. Oh oh, sounds too much like Disturbia, c’mon, Hollywood writers, can’t think of anything else? In spite of this lack of creativity, Transformers delivers hard-core, non-stop action, and the special effects are absolutely amazing.

You see, all of the Transformers end up on earth searching for the glasses, but the Autobots (led by the awesome Optimus Prime) know that Sam has them, and end up hanging out in his backyard. Interesting that no one can hear or see these overgrown robots destroying the yard.

Moving on, this dumb robot by the name of Frenzy, reverses the controls that kept Megatron frozen, and it’s on now! Everybody’s fighting, the city gets trashed, and eventually we get to see the two Transformer leaders go at it, the best part of the film if you ask me. After Optimus Prime gets his butt kicked by Megatron, he asks Sam to push the AllSpark (yes, it was found) into his chest. But Sam knows that if Prime doesn’t survive, he might not be brought back for a sequel, so he turns around, and rams it into Megatron’s chest.

Yeah! The movie is brought to a conclusion similar to Disturbia, and I will not rehash it. Besides, if I close my eyes, I can image that I see Leonardo DiCaprio ( a real actor) in that leading role. But wait a minute, if I keep them shut for too long, I won’t be able to see anything………….. will I?
